Alina Habba says Trump can't have fixed hush money payments because 'he was in Washington'

Former President Donald Trump's attorney Alina Habba offered unique defenses of her client in his criminal hush money case during an appearance on Fox News Monday night.

Habba discussed with host Sean Hannity Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's case against the former president, whom he accuses of falsifying business records to cover up payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels, after the first day in court.

"Let's not forget something here, Sean, President Trump was in Washington when...this is happening," Habba said. "When somebody made a notation in an accounting record at Trump Organization, he was in Washington taking care of this country."

Habba also argued Judge Juan Merchan's decision not to allow Trump to skip out on his New York City trial to attend next week's Supreme Court presidential immunity arguments constituted a violation of due process.

"He's] not even allowing a person due process, the right to go sit in front of the Supreme Court and hear a case that determines many lawsuits that are currently against President Trump," Habba complained.

Habba's legal takes quickly made their way to social media where they spurred questions and jokes.

"I'm not sure Haba [sic] should be disbarred so much as retroactively un-barred," wrote @lawyer_unfrozen. "As in someone needs to figure out what typo or error led to her being admitted in the first place."

"Supreme Court Rulings are not necessary for a plaintiff to attend," noted Charlie Thompson. "Criminal cases are necessary for a defendant to attend. Maybe she should have shown up on that day of law school. Maybe her client should have listened to people who went to law school and not committed crimes."
