Trump’s ex-finance chief may soon plead guilty to perjury in New York: report

Donald Trump’s former finance chief Allen Weisselberg is negotiating a deal to plead guilty to perjury, according to a new report.

Weisselberg is in talks with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office to potentially admit he lied in the witness box in Trump’s $370 million civil fraud trial and during an interview with the New York Attorney General’s office, according to the New York Times.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg last year indicted Trump over hush money payments they say he paid adult film star Stormy Daniels, the New York Times notes.

Despite Weisselberg’s involvement in the financial dealings at the heart of the case, the Times reports the deal “would most likely not require Mr. Weisselberg, 76, to turn on his former boss.”

But the deal could strengthen Bragg’s hand by deterring other witnesses from lying in court, the Times notes. The deal could also discredit any testimony Weisselberg himself gave.

Representatives for Bragg and Weisselberg declined the Times’ requests for comment.

Whether the plea involves a felony or misdemeanor reportedly remains unclear.
