Anti-LGBT lobbyist whines that Josh Duggar scandal has tarnished ‘family values’ movement
The head of the "pro-marriage" Family Research Council that previously employed disgraced former reality TV star Josh Duggar has issued a statement condemning Duggar for his infidelity after he admitted this week that he had committed adultery.
In his statement, FRC President Tony Perkins wrote: “Last night we learned from online reports about allegations concerning Josh Duggar and then read his confession today. We are grieved by Josh’s conduct and the devastating impact of his pornography addiction and marital unfaithfulness. Our hearts hurt for his family, and all those affected by Josh’s actions."
Perkins went on to add: "His deceitful behavior harms his family, his friends, his former coworkers, and the cause he has publicly espoused. Those of us who advocate for family values in the public square are held to a higher standard, and Josh’s failures serve as a painful reminder of the destructive effects of not living with integrity. We are praying for the family.”
The FRC hired Duggar be the face of the pro-family, anti-LGBT organization, trading in on his celebrity as the eldest child of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, stars of the popular 19 Kids and Counting television show.
In his capacity as a vice president with the FRC, Josh Duggar was at the forefront of the organization's assault on same-sex marriage, with Duggar denouncing same-sex unions as an "attack" on the family, children, and “Christian values.”
When it was revealed in May that the Duggar family covered up Josh Duggar's admission that he had molested his younger sisters and at least one other girl when he was 14, Perkins announced that Duggar no longer worked for the organization, calling it a resignation instead of a firing.
“Today Josh Duggar made the decision to resign his position as a result of previously unknown information becoming public concerning events that occurred during his teenage years," Perkins stated at the time. "Josh believes that the situation will make it difficult for him to be effective in his current work."
Perkins latest statement indicates the organization is still in damage control mode almost three months after Duggar stepped down.
