'Where are the men?' Ex-Trump aide calls on more Republicans to condemn her former boss
February 26, 2024
Donald Trump's former deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews on Monday slammed Republicans who refuse to speak out against her old boss at the 2024 presidential election looms.
This prompted MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace to hone in on one particular group: "Where are the men?"
The all-female panel on Wallace's show argued that most of the Republicans willing to speak out against Trump are women such as Alyssa Farah Griffin, former Rep. Liz Cheney and Cassidy Hutchinson.
While others like Gen. James Mattis, Gen. Mark Milley and Gen. John Kelly have been public about their opposition to Trump, they've been unwilling to take to the media on a weekly basis the way women have been, the panelists said.
"I think that people aren't feeling as inclined to speak out," Matthews said. "I don't think that they feel the pressure because we still have so many months away from the election. But it will come up quicker than we realize it."
She explained that she is still hopeful that some of those leading Republicans will be willing to be more public.
"I'm sticking my neck out, as are a lot of women," Matthews said. "So, I do think they will feel the duty to come forward because they saw how unfit Donald Trump is."
Wallace pointed out that even former Attorney General Bill Barr is calling out Trump, but when asked whether he'd pick Joe Biden over Trump, he refused. Wallace recalled that Trump has made it clear that he intends to "punish" Barr if he's elected to a second term.
The discussion was part of Wallace's longer conversation about the concerns over the possibilities of an authoritarian America if Trump were elected.
