Bernie Sanders hits an Iowa picket line: 'Standing with workers is something I've been doing my entire life'

Bernie Sanders did a little walking the talk on Friday night when he hit union picket lines in Iowa.

Sen. Sanders, (I-VT), joined about 100 union workers picketing corn processing plant Penford Products, according to the Des Moines Register. The workers are in a contract battle with a new out-of-state owner, the Washington Post reports.

"I want you to know being out on a picket line and standing with workers is something I have been doing for my entire life," Sanders told the crowd, according to the Register. "I did when I was mayor of the city of Burlington, did in Congress, did it in the Senate. This is what I do."

Megaphone in hand, Sanders criticized the CEO's pay package and told the crowd he supports workers.

"You're going to see today he doesn't just talk the talk," Chris Eby, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union Local 100G president told the Register. "He's going to come out and join us and walk the walk."

Sanders said he is "sick and tired" of the war on working families and said picketers had to tell the company that corporate greed is not acceptable, according to the Post.

"What is going on here," Sanders told the Post, "is exactly what has been going on all over the country."
