Judge scorches Giuliani lawyer: 'We're in the situation we're in because of your client'

U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell blasted Rudy Giuliani's attorney, Joe Sibley, after his client continued to possibly defame two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.

Following a lunch break on the second day of the defamation trial, Howell addressed false claims Giuliani made before television cameras the night before. The one-time attorney for former President Donald Trump had continued to suggest that Moss and Freeman were responsible for rigging the 2020 presidential election.

"Mr. Sibley has a hard job," Howell said, arguing that he did not have control over Giuliani.

At one point, the judge became annoyed after Sibley offered facts despite failing to provide discovery to the court.

"Who knows what he believed when, because we have no discovery of that!" Howell exclaimed. "We're in the situation we're in because of your client."

Howell said she saved Giuliani from himself by advising attorneys not to put him on the stand because he might not tell the truth.

"Contempt has been a running theme through this case," she added. "I think the plaintiffs would have preferred contempt to default, and maybe they were right on that."
