MSNBC's Joe Scarborough mocked Republican lawmakers as their conspiracy theories about the Biden family fall apart.
A so-called whistleblower who repeatedly accused President Joe Biden and his son of corruption was indicted by the Justice Department with arms trafficking and acting as a foreign agent for China, as well as violating Iran sanctions, and the U.S. attorney for Delaware knocked down claims by another purported whistleblower about the Hunter Biden prosecution.
"This guy was appointed by [Donald] Trump, right -- Trump guy?" the "Morning Joe" host said.
David Weiss, the top federal prosecutor in the Bidens' home state, disputed the IRS whistleblower's claims and said he had clearance to bring charges in any jurisdiction and had never asked to be named special counsel, which conflicts with claims that GOP lawmakers have cited as evidence of corruption.

"As Greek philosopher Aristotle once said, now they're just making stuff up," Scarborough said. "I cleaned it up for the kids today. They're making all the wild charges up, they blow up in their faces, and they wonder why they keep losing elections."
Co-host Willie Geist said the facts in the case don't actually matter to conservative media consumers, who are more interested in the appearance of corruption than evidence that stands up to any amount of scrutiny.
"It resonates in a certain media ecosystem, as you said a minute ago, this is what people are talking about on certain TV shows, certain websites, and it does have the feeling of an important investigation to certain people," Geist said. "The question is, when you get out to the country and walk around, do feel like this is significant? They understand if Hunter Biden did something wrong, committed a crime, he ought to be charged, if he did something serious enough, he ought to go to jail, period."
"Also, the Republicans have to make up their mind," Geist added. "Is Joe Biden a doddering old man who can't find the door after a press conference, or is he the mastermind of an international criminal scheme that involves China, involves Russia and Ukraine and all these different places, where he is enriching himself and his family? It kind of can't be both."
"This is a situation where two things can't be true at the same time," co-host Mika Brzezinski agreed. "There's no dialectical here."
