James Fishback, who challenged Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) in Florida’s Republican primary for governor, says Donalds’ campaign kicked him out of a public event on Saturday and threatened to have him arrested.
“Byron Donalds just denied me entry to his public event in St. Pete, and threatened to arrest me if we didn’t leave,” Fishback wrote on X.
He compared it with his experience at a campaign event for Democrat Angie Nixon.
“Mind you, my wife and I attended Angie Nixon’s event last week with no issues,” he wrote.
Fishback, an investor, said he goes to political events across the spectrum.
“I’ve always enjoyed observing politics. It’s why I’ve attended events to hear Trump, Obama, Bush, Bernie, and others. My wife enjoys it, too,” he wrote. “It’s disgraceful that they’d tell us to leave or we’d get arrested.”
Fishback didn’t say who told him to leave or share video of the exchange. Donalds’ campaign hasn’t publicly responded to his claims.
Donalds, whom President Donald Trump endorsed early, won the GOP nomination and is running in the Nov. 3 general election.
