President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump suggested herself as a performer in conservative counterprogramming to the Super Bowl halftime show.
The Fox News host fielded questions on her podcast, "Right View With Lara Trump," and one listener asked who she would like to see perform at Turning Point USA's alternative to pop superstar Bad Bunny's concert at the NFL championship game, reported The Daily Beast.
“I know a lot of owners of NFL teams, a lot of people are upset about that,” Trump said. “I don’t know what the heck the NFL was thinking … We don’t need the NFL, we don’t need any of these woke losers to perform, we can have our own performance.”
Conservatives have objected loudly to the Puerto Rican rapper's selection to perform at the Super Bowl because has spoken out against Immigration and Customs Enforcement crackdowns, and he has refused to add concerts in the U.S. because he fears federal agents will target his fans.
The 43-year-old broadcaster, who served less than a year as co-chair of the Republican National Committee and has floated her name for open Senate seats, rattled off several conservative-coded musicians, including country star Chris Stapleton and Canadian MAGA rapper Tom MacDonald, before landing on herself.
"You know what? You can throw Lara Trump in there," she said, throwing her head back and laughing uproariously. "Yeah, that’s right."
Eric Trump's wife has tried to conjure up a singing career to mixed reviews, with 10,000 monthly followers on Spotify, but her latest song, "Eyes of God," has been streamed only 2,731 times, and her most popular song, a cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down," was widely panned and prompted a cease-and-desist order from the rock legend's family.
“Trump was in no way authorized to use this song to further a campaign that leaves too many Americans and common sense behind,” Petty’s family said in a statement after she performed the song at a 2020 rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Her recently released song, "Hero," garnered brutal reviews online.
“If your ears have been exposed to the abominable sounds of Lara Trump singing, you might be entitled to compensation,” political commentator Travis Akers posted on X.
