'Poster child for corruption': Judge Cannon slammed for 'crazy' new ruling in Trump case

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, already under scrutiny for her series of decisions tilting the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case in former President Donald Trump's favor, took the highly unusual step of allowing three right-wing lawyers who filed amicus briefs to give oral arguments in a hearing about whether to throw the entire case out on June 21.

Legal experts have reacted with disgust over Cannon's decision over how to conduct this hearing — and the general public on social media took notice as well.

"What a total rambling s--- show," wrote University of Texas law professor Lee Kovarsky.

"I joked that she would do this. And she’s doing it," wrote Allison Gill, a veteran who heads up the "Mueller, She Wrote" account.

"Judge Cannon is an absolute hack. This is entirely unnecessary," wrote Georgia State constitutional law professor Anthony Michael Kreis.

"Non-lawyers may not appreciate just how bat sh*t crazy this order is," explained the account "PoliticsEsq." "Amicus parties are almost never allowed to participate in oral arguments in the appellate courts (where they only normally appear) much less a district court. Cannon backfires again!"

"Judge Cannon is a poster child for corruption in the federal judiciary," wrote X user Durwood Wiggins.

"Snarky Lawyer" had an alternate suggestion to make Cannon's move backfire: "The funny thing would be for a bunch of other law professors to file motions asking for the same relief."

Cannon's apparent pro-Trump antics have now led to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals being bombarded with complaints asking for her removal — many of them seeming to come from the fanbase of former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner, who instructed fans of his "Justice Matters" podcast on how to submit such complaints.

But Chief Judge William Pryor, an ultraconservative who ruled against Cannon in the past, has largely rejected what he calls an "orchestrated campaign" to push him to remove Cannon from the case.
