This Chicago woman is buying up hotel rooms to save the homeless from the killing polar vortex

Chicago resident, Candice Payne's one act of kindness had a domino effect after she purchased hotel rooms for homeless people experiencing historically low temperatures.

The polar vortex hit Chicago and it was reported that the -21-degree weather was colder than Antartica.

In an interview with CNN, Payne said that she wanted to clear the homeless out of "tent city" after a propane tank exploded and forced people to evacuate.

She then booked more than 60 hotel rooms that housed about 100 people including children to help keep them safe during the deadly cold temperatures.

Shortly after the act of kindness went viral support flooded in.

"I have people dropping by daily to help who have seen the story on Instagram," she told CNN. "They have volunteered money and time and cars because we had to get them to the hotel."

"I also have a real estate brokerage, so some of the agents came out to help," she said. "They cooked for the homeless, helping to serve them."

"We got people from the police stations, hospitals, outside huddled around fire pits. We drove around looking for them," she said. "What inspired me was my current blessings, so I was just trying to give back."
