Left-leaning influencers are previewing revelations dropping later Thursday about a Republican senator's personal affairs that allegedly broke the law and possibly endangered national security.
The Young Turks' Cenk Uygur and Democratic activist Harry Sisson both announced on social media that a video documentary will be posted online showing video evidence that a GOP senator hired male escorts and covered it up, and their claims set off wild speculation.
"We’re going to drop a bombshell documentary on @TheYoungTurks tomorrow morning called The Closetocracy," Uygur posted on X. Which US Senator did we catch using male escorts?"
"I have been given exclusive information about a closeted Republican Senator who used male escorts and covered it up," Sisson added. "I will be dropping a video about it this morning. Stay tuned. This is certainly an October surprise."
One of Sisson's followers asked whether the senator was "a 'family values,' 'homosexuality is a sin,' kinda guy," stating that outing a lawmaker just for the sake of embarrassing was "not cool," and Sisson stated "he’s that kind of guy."
Uygur echoed that sentiment.
"The issue isn’t someone’s sexuality, but there is a serious national security issue," he posted. "One of the incidents was highly illegal - and on tape!"
The Daily Beast's Roger Sollenberger offered an intriguing preview of the video.
"Just got a sneak peek of this thing. I gotta say, pretty compelling stuff here," Sollenberger said.
Many social media users offered guesses about who the closeted senator's identity, while others painted with a broader brush.
"I’m guessing half of them?!?!?" yelped libertarian politician Ben DeJong.
"If had to guess, there's pretty much only one name on my mind at the moment, but I would rather not get sued, so I'll keep that to myself," hedged writer and veteran Charlotte Clymer. "But if it's who I'm thinking and the evidence is compelling, a Senate race just got very interesting."
"We may be about to learn what info a certain president had on a certain senator, but I’m just speculating," wondered podcaster and veteran Allison Gill. "Sollenberger says he’s seen it, and the evidence is compelling. TYT is calling it a natsec issue. I guess we will find out."
