CNN's Cooper blasts Huckabee Sanders: How does she have ‘any credibility’ to 'lecture' reporters on fake news?

On Monday night, CNN's Anderson Cooper and his panelists discussed a particularly tense exchange earlier in the day when White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders lectured CNN's Jim Acosta over journalists allegedly misleading followers on purpose. The "issue" had become a major topic of discussion spurred on by President Donald Trump's weekend attacks on a Washington Post reporter for misattributing an image in a tweet that he deleted and apologized for.

Cooper wondered how Sanders could position herself and the White House by extension as being on a moral high ground regarding "fake news" or, in her words, "purposefully putting out information ... that hasn’t been validated, that hasn’t been offered any credibility, that has been continually denied by a number of people" given the president's propensity for lying public.

It's unclear, the host continued, how the press secretary "has any credibility when it comes to lecturing news organizations" about honesty and correcting lapses in fact-checking when he hadn't "heard this White House admitting a mistake at all."

After subsequent reporting revealed that Cooper's colleague Manu Raju was given an incorrect timeline by a source regarding Donald Trump, Jr'.s communications with WikiLeaks, the network immediately ran a correction -- but right-wingers, led by Trump Jr. himself, immediately pounced on the story.
