Republicans get into 'tussle' over release of Biden impeachment report

House Republicans won't let Rep. James Comer (R-KY) release a 400-page impeachment inquiry report on President Joe Biden that has left him political limbo, a new report claims.

The House Oversight Committee chair is reportedly "eager" to show the nation this week a report that fellow Republicans admit is unlikely to result in any impeachment effort, Punchbowl News reported Thursday.

But he faced serious pushback from conservatives who don't want waste ammunition on a target already under fire.

“Let the Democrats keep shooting each other,” added Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) told Punchbowl News. “That’s my advice."

The inaction leaves Comer stuck the results of an investigation that never uncovered a smoking gun, the outlet reports.

"Comer has been eager to move on from a flailing investigation that he’s been the face of for months," reporters Melanie Zanona and John Bresnahan write of the GOP "tussle."

Publicly, Comer acknowledged the reasoning behind the decision to hold back the report.

"The one thing that’s being discussed — and I don’t think it’s a factor — is why would you do anything right now?" Comer reportedly said. "Napoleon said ‘Never invade when the enemy is in the process of destroying themselves.’”

The report is also being held up by disagreements as three committees grapple with the right language to use, sources reportedly said.

“You got three committees to work with,” House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told us this week. “We’re still working on it.”
