James Comer 'would lose a debate to a toaster oven': Ex-GOP strategist Rick Wilson

House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) doesn't have the intelligence to be at the helm of a major impeachment investigation, argued former Republican strategist turned Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson on MSNBC Friday evening.
This comes after Comer's Biden impeachment investigation, which alleges President Joe Biden laundered bribes through his son Hunter's international business dealings, has failed to turn up any evidence from hearings with hand-picked witnesses, and after Comer shot down Hunter Biden responding to his own subpoena because he demanded the right to sit for the interview in public.
"Poor James Comer," said anchor Joy Reid. "What is the purpose at this point of the impeachment if they have no witnesses and they can't even bring themselves to question their supposed star prosecution witness in public?"
"Look, I think to begin, we should be thankful James Comer is running this investigation, because James Comer is a man, clearly, who is easily overcome by inanimate objects," said Wilson. "This is a guy who would lose a debate to a toaster oven. I have old pairs of crocs smarter than James Comer. This is a guy who really is not a bright man."

Admittedly, Wilson added, it's not solely Comer doing the investigation, and he has a team of attorneys available to help him uncover evidence.
"However, their case is based on such a tenuous scheme of lies, BS, garbage, fake laptop stories, the entire thing falls apart with even the most cursory exposure to truth," added Wilson. "And so they're going to end up with this thing that they thought was going to be their Benghazi, they were going to get him in the chair like they got Hillary for days on end, and have this rolling set of coverage." Moreover, said Wilson, even Fox News appears to be "profoundly embarrassed" by Comer and poking holes in the whole enterprise.
"This is an impeachment in search of a fact base and there is none to be had," concluded Wilson. "It's always projection. These people, when they say someone is a criminal, it's because they're criming. If they say someone is corrupt, it's because they're corrupt. And they're projecting this back, all of Donald Trump's sins back on Joe Biden to try to muddy the water, it's not working. And the fact that they have a guy who is spearheading this who is probably about as capable of understanding complex multivariant legal problems as I am of understanding quantum physics is a real benefit to the president right now."
