Confederate flag-loving Florida man admits mosque bomb threats intended to terrorize Muslims

A south Florida man with a Confederate flag in his social media profile was busted earlier this month for making bomb threats against a nearby mosque after investigators checked caller ID.

Dustin Hughes allegedly called Jamaat Ul Muttaqeen Mosque in Pembroke Pines four times in a week, beginning May 5, to warn that he planned to set off a bomb, reported WKMG-TV.

"You f*cking Muslim piece of sh*t, I planted a bomb in your temple -- I'm going to blow your f*cking temple up, you f*cking Muslim piece of sh*t," the caller said. "Where you guys have your sanctuary and worship Allah, I'm going to blow that motherf*cker up. l have a detonator, I'm going to cause that motherf*cker to go off, you guys are all going to be up in flames after I'm done with you! You guys want to come here and cause mayhem to America, well, I'm going to cause mayhem to your religion because your religion is nothing but lies. Lies, lies, lies from the devil! Where's Allah now?"

Mosque officials immediately called police, who searched the building but found no bombs.

A man with the same voice had left three other threatening voice mail messages, and police identified Hughes as the suspect after checking the caller ID log.

Hughes was arrested May 15, the first day of Ramadan, by federal authorities at his Cutler Bay home.

Federal investigators told the 26-year-old Hughes that the calls had terrorized the Muslim worshipers, and they said he clapped his hands and said, "Good."

"During the interview, Hughes stated, in substance, that he wanted to scare members of the mosque and upset them," federal investigators said.

Hughes, who changed his Facebook profile picture in October to show a Confederate flag and the caption, "Heritage not hate," has been charged with willfully making a bomb threat by telephone.

He faces up to 10 years in prison, if convicted.
