Congress investigating Trump's decision to lift sanctions on Putin-linked oligarch's businesses: report

Congress is probing the Trump Administration's decision to lift sanctions on businesses owned by a Kremlin-linked Russian oligarch -- and those doing the looking aren't just Democrats.

The New York Times reported Friday that on Friday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) filed a congressional resolution that outlines disapproval of the Treasury Department's decision to lift sanctions on companies owned by Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.

Schumer noted that there are still "critical questions" for the Trump administrations surrounding the decision.

The minority leader also signaled that if a formal review process that's being undertaken by multiple committees, including the bipartisan Senate Banking Committee, "is unable to resolve those questions to his satisfaction," he would continue the resolution.

Report writer Kenneth Vogel noted on Twitter that "it's not just Democrats" who want answers on the lifting of sanctions on Deripaska's business and that "the GOP staff of the Senate Banking Committee is working with Dems to review the decision.

Nevertheless, Vogel added, it's unlikely that Senate Republicans would block Treasury's move.
