Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) delivered a passionate speech at the Michigan Democratic Women's Caucus, telling a crowd, "What we need is foot soldiers for our democracy, who in times of trial are willing to stand up. Will you stand for our democracy?"
His remarks came as the Trump administration and the Republican Party have expressed concern about the upcoming November midterm elections and potential loss of congressional power.
Booker spoke about a "storm" brewing in the nation, urging Democratic supporters to take action.
His speech sparked backlash from MAGA supporters on social media, who interpreted his language as incitement of violence.
Maryland MAGA candidate Cheryl Riley reacted on X, "The Guilty scream the loudest… and use their violent incitement rhetoric… how many lunatics are going to follow this demon's call for 'foot soldiers."
Military veteran Vaughn Allen criticized Booker on X, "This guy is an absolute disaster," adding, "He hates this country as much as he loves himself!!!"
Also on X, MAGA supporter Joanne Daley characterized Democrats as the most dangerous threat to the Republican party and argued, "They can never get power again, or they will be worse than they were under Biden Autopen/Obama. BTW Biden just admitted that when he wasn't up to being POTUS. Barry would step in and pinch hit for him..."
