Dan Savage wants to make Duggar the new Santorum: 'Clearly duggary needs to be a word'

Dan Savage wants to make the name Duggar synonymous with hypocrisy and child molestation – just as he helped make Santorum a descriptive noun for a byproduct of anal sex.

“Clearly ‘duggary’ needs to be a word,” Savage posted Tuesday on Twitter.

He turned to his readers and social media followers for help defining the new word – based on the surname of the “19 Kids and Counting” reality show family embroiled in a child sex abuse scandal involving their eldest son, who resigned from his job with the anti-LGBT Family Research Council after it was revealed that he molested his sisters as a teenager.

“Should it mean sexual hypocrisy? Fundy hypocrisy? Child molestation?” Savage asked, using the hashtag #duggary to help promote his idea.

Mike Luckovich, the Atlanta Journal Constitution cartoonist, had a similar idea in a political cartoon published Tuesday that depicted Josh Duggar wearing a phony halo.

“I got a word named after me,” Duggar says, holding up a page that defines his last name as a verb that means “to sexually abuse innocent victims while trumpeting your moral superiority.”

“Hold my Bible while I DUGGAR you,” suggest Luckovich as an example.

Savage’s readers seemed to favor “duggary” as synonymous with sexual hypocrisy, although one alluded to the 2003 stunt the advice columnist pulled on Rick Santorum – whose last name was defined by readers as "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex.”
