Democrats should give Trump a 'fake wall' so he can 'pretend it's real' to end the shutdown: Conservative commentator

Conservative commentator Charlie Sykes on Wednesday came up with an ingenious solution to Donald Trump's government shutdown over his border wall that involves a bit of magical thinking.

"I think the only way he will get out of this is for the Democrats to give him a fake wall and for him to pretend it is a real wall and he is, of course, capable of that," Sykes told his MSNBC co-panelists the afternoon of the 33rd day of the shutdown.

Trump, the editor of The Bulwark conservative website noted, is "a serial fabulist" -- a fact Democrats can use to "somehow maneuver him into standing in front of a non-wall and 'saying look at my big, beautiful wall, I'm Donald Trump, I built this for you.'"

"Maybe they can make that lack of reality work for them," Sykes added.

Donny Deutsch, a friend of former Trump "fixer" Michael Cohen, agreed with the conservative commentator.

"Democrats say 'we will give you the $5.6 billion and spend it the right way, we're not going to say you built a wall,'" Deutsch explained.

"That will make them soft on security," he continued. "What Trump will do is say, 'That's what I meant, that's my wall of security."

"He will create that reality," Deutsch confirmed.
