Democrats raise $13,000 in 40 minutes to help open NC GOP office after firebomb attack

Donald Trump might be attacking for a firebomb that hit a North Carolina GOP campaign office late Saturday night, but it's Democrats who are working to help reopen the office.

Massachusetts Democrat David Weinberger heard the news and started a campaign on Gofundme.com to help reopen the campaign office. In approximately 40 minutes, the campaign reached its goal from his Democratic friends and then some, according to a WSOCTV reporter.

"As Democrats, we are starting this campaign to enable the Orange County, North Carolina Republican office to re-open as soon as possible," Weinberger wrote on the page.

"Until an investigation is undertaken, we cannot know who did this or why," he continued. "No matter the result, this is not how Americans resolve their differences. We talk, we argue, sometimes we march, and most of all we vote. We do not resort to violence by individuals or by mobs. So, let's all pitch in, no matter what your party affiliation, and get that office open again quickly."

Some donors wrote comments and messages of support, all advocating democratic ideals, peace and the need to preserve political freedom.

"I very strongly disagree with most every GOP position on which there's a partisan divide, and the North Carolina GOP, in particular, has disgraced itself on voting rights and LGBT issues. That said: There is no place in our society for political violence or vandalism," Hillel Schwartz wrote along with an $18 donation.

"I'm opposed to most they stand for, except their right to stand for it," Matt Blaze said with a $50 contribution.

Police have not yet identified a suspect in the case, according to a WSOCTV report, the office will operate out of a bus for the next few weeks.
