'National treasure' Dolly Parton's death unites left and right in grief

Country music icon Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80 on Tuesday — leaving America in shock and grief.

The announcement united typical political rivals, as public figures on both the left and right came together to mourn the passing of one of the country's most beloved musical talents and philanthropists.

"Heartbreaking news… Rest in Heavenly Peace to the one and only @DollyParton!" wrote former South Carolina Senate candidate and Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison.

"An American treasure and loss for our country," wrote former South Carolina governor, U.N. ambassador, and presidential candidate Nikki Haley. "Her contagious energy and spirit made everyone smile. She will be missed."

"Damn. RIP Dolly. What a singular force she was," wrote CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins.

"Dolly was a person my Great-grandmother, my Grandmother, my mother, and I all loved equally," wrote Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio. "That’s an amazing trait; she was one of one."
