Rudy Giuliani slapped with massive $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems

Dominion Voting Systems has filed a massive $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit against Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani for making false claims about the company supposedly stealing the 2020 election for President Joe Biden.

The New York Times reports that the suit against Giuliani accuses him of concocting "a viral disinformation campaign about Dominion" made up of "demonstrably false" claims that he used to justify charging hefty legal fees to the Trump campaign.

Giuliani, along with pro-Trump attorney Sidney Powell, peddled multiple conspiracy theories about Dominion in an effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Powell at one point even accused Dominion of conspiring with late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez to commit election fraud in the United States.

"Dominion was not founded in Venezuela to fix elections for Hugo Chávez," the suit says in rebuttal to Powell's false claims. "It was founded in 2002 in John Poulos's basement in Toronto to help blind people vote on paper ballots."

The lawsuit also notes that Giuliani never mentioned Dominion while arguing before courts in trying to justify the overturning of the election, which the company says is evidence that he knew he could not back up the conspiracy theories he was peddling on his social media accounts.

"Notably, not a single one of the three complaints signed and filed by Giuliani and other attorneys for the Trump Campaign in the Pennsylvania action contained any allegations about Dominion," the lawsuit states.
