President Donald Trump's voters have taken a massive hit as they struggle to afford the cost of living in the U.S. all while the president mocked their concerns at his rally in Pennsylvania, a journalist reported Wednesday.
The Atlantic's Mark Leibovich told MS NOW's Ana Cabrera that Trump campaigned on a promise that he could fix the economy and that he is now running out of time to convince people he can repair it. The economy is not just a problem for Trump, but Republicans facing an increased challenge ahead of the midterm elections in 2026.
"Well, it's huge when youconsider that that wassupposedly his strength comingin both after the election, butalso historically, I mean, voters, you know, fundamentallytrusted him with the economy," Leibovich said.
"Ithink there's only so much moretime he has. I think he'sprobably exhausted his limit,in which he can just sort ofblanket blame the lastadministration for all economicwoes people are feeling," he added.
Trump voters have taken the brunt of his policies — something Republicans will have to face in the future.
"Andthe truth is, as reflected inthe numbers we just saw, is,yes, Trump voters arefundamentally being affected bythis," Leibovich said. "They acknowledge it,they're aware of it, and it'sreflecting very poorly on thepresident. This will becomeeven more so if these Obamacaresubsidies expire and thesecosts sort of start devastatinga lot of red state Trump voterscoming into the next year. Sothis is a looming problem. Itdoesn't seem to be gettingbetter anytime soon. And thereare a lot of indicators thatwould suggest that this isprobably going to, you know, continue to be a big challengefor the president and theadministration."
