'Straight-up Nazi': Morning Joe pounds Trump for spewing fascism as legal woes mount
October 05, 2023
Donald Trump has been spewing "Nazi talking points" as his legal problems cascade, according to MSNBC's Joe Scarborough.
The former president, who has been indicted four times on 91 counts and found liable in court for fraud and sexual abuse, has recently threatened or celebrated violence against his enemies, and this week told an interviewer that immigrants were "poisoning the blood of our country" – which the "Morning Joe" host denounced as plainly fascist.
"Straight-up Nazi talking points," Scarborough said.
Scarborough expressed frustration that so many Republicans fail to recognize the threat Trump poses to freedom and democracy.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
"I've gotten really tired of people saying, 'No, no, it's not fascism,'" he said. "You know, you go back and look at what people used to say fascism was, in fascism there's all of this violent talk and imagery and they even use power and violence to overtake governmental institutions. I think post-Jan. 6 all those arguments about this isn't fascism have gone out the window."
"Over the past week we've seen him talking about executing a chairman of the Joint Chiefs," Scarborough added. "His No. 1 competitor [Ron DeSantis] talking about the day he gets into office he's going to start slitting the throats of federal employees. [Rep.] Paul Gosar saying what he was saying, Donald Trump mocking Paul Pelosi almost getting killed by a hammer to his head, and the people in the audience, most disturbingly, were dying laughing over the fact that Paul Pelosi had his brains bashed in by a hammer. Are we free to say this is approaching a fascist sort of ideology?"
