CNN's Christiane Amanpour reported that U.S. allies believe President Donald Trump could be doing more to end two major conflicts, and they're not sure why he's not taking more action.
The president claims he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for ending six conflicts in his first six months back in office, although experts aren't sure what he's talking about, and Amanpour told "The Situation Room" that his inaction on conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza were once again on display during his state visit to Britain.
"The major existential problems in terms of foreign policy, as we keep saying, are first and foremost for Europe, the land war in Europe, that is the land war in Europe that is being waged by [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin with no regard for what President Trump says or anybody else in the NATO alliance says," Amanpour said. "He just keeps escalating until he gets pushed back firmly, and I think it was really important that at the state banquet, the king, who doesn't get into overt politics but can speak, he basically said in his speech, 'Today as tyranny once again threatens Europe, we and our allies stand together in support of Ukraine to deter aggression and secure peace.'"
"President Trump was seated there, he nodded," she added. "But we still, aseverybody is saying, have to seethe president of the United States using the leverage thatonly the United States has, onlythe president of the president of the United States has to affect these wars in Ukraine and, of course, in the Middle East," she added. "The presidentof the United States is the onlyhuman beingon Earth tohave leverage with Prime Minister Netanyahu, and the factthat he's notusing thatleverage is being noticed byallies and analysts. They say that, you know, this isa president who could do it,it was alluded to in onequestion there, but so farhasn't exerted his influence."
