President Donald Trump was spotted dozing during Monday night's NBA Finals game after disrupting the arrival of thousands of fans and even commuters outside the event.
The 79-year-old president's attendance necessitated enhanced security throughout New York City, and ticket holders waited in line for hours to get inside Madison Square Garden and watch parties were canceled outside the arena, but Trump was spotted nodding off as the New York Knicks saw their 13-game postseason win streak snapped by the San Antonio Spurs.
"There's ahuge subplot to this game isthat the Knicks went into itwith a 13-game winning streak," said "Morning Joe" co-host Jonathan Lemire. "Sort of remarkable, and peopleare like, what could possiblydisrupt them for their rhythm?Well we have an answer – oh, President Trump."
"Did he ruin everything?" asked co-host Mika Brzezinski.
"Heshowed up last night, creating a hugesecurity perimeter," Lemire replied. "Fans had tostand in line for hours. Therewas a lot of grumbling whenthey showed him on thejumbotron during the National Anthem. Mind you, was probablyintentional to try to put downthe boos. Well, it didn't work.It was thunderous boos fromthose inside, from both thepool reporter in the building, and you could hear it on the TVbroadcast as well. They werevery, very, very loud."
"I enjoythat our show notes here thatwere prepared, it says, youknow, 'Trump was there on the same night the Knicks' 13-gamewinning streak was snapped, parentheses," Lemire added. "There is noevidence of correlation betweenthe two circumstances. I don'tknow. I think there are a lotof Knicks fans that would begto differ."
"Did he fall asleep?" Brzezinski interjected.
Lemire agreed there was video footage of Trump dozing, which was shared by the right-leaning New York Post on social media.
"He did not shut down New York and disrupt this game tofall asleep at it," Brzezinski marveled.
"The New York Post Twitter accounthas footage of Trump prettyclearly falling asleep at somepoint in the second half," Lemire said.
"No, it can'tbe," Brzezinski deadpanned. "Not with all that 'Sleepy Joe' stuff. Imean, you can't."
"Well, he managed to find away," Lemire replied. "He was there, he was booed and now, Game 4 is so gigantic."
