DOJ lawyer mocked for not knowing how to contact opposing team

The Justice Department has set its sights on New York Attorney General Letitia James and Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) as part of an ongoing effort to carry out a revenge campaign against President Donald Trump’s perceived foes. However, the DOJ lawyer leading the charge doesn’t appear to have all his ducks in a row.

Appellate lawyer Sean Marotta responded to a New York Times report about Edward Martin, the man now at the helm of the so-called "weaponization" effort. Trump claims the DOJ was “weaponized” against him, and Martin will now use it to target Trump’s enemies.

Marotta noticed, among the court filings from Martin against James, that the top official didn’t even have contact information for James’ lawyer.

“Imagine being an Associate Deputy Attorney General, but you don’t have a direct email for opposing counsel, so you send your letter via the general inquiries mailbox for his law firm,” Marotta mocked.

Martin spoke to Fox News on Sunday about how his department plans to investigate people like James and Schiff.

“We’re gonna go to the very bottom of the facts, and if somebody did something wrong, we’re not only gonna hold them accountable, we’re also gonna look at everything else they’ve been doing. Because when you’re a liar, you lie not just on one thing. When you’re a cheater, you cheat not just on one thing. When you’re doing corruption, you generally don’t just do it on one thing,” he said.

Former deputy chief of the criminal division at the Southern District of New York, Kristy Greenberg, responded to Martin’s comment on Bluesky, explaining, “That’s not how it works. A criminal investigation is not an excuse to pry, harass, and threaten people about non-criminal conduct. This is dangerous.”
