Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio will soon be a free man, according to media reports and a social media post from his mother.
“My son has is being released!!!!” Tarrio’s mother, Zuny Tarrio, told her followers on X just before 7 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday. “Omg! Lord thank you!!! TARRIO IS FREE!!!”
Tarrio is reportedly being processed for release from a federal prison in Louisiana, The New York Times reported. The publication added that while Tarrio has yet to be granted formal clemency, his attorney, Nayib Hassan, said the former leader could walk out of the federal facility as early as Monday night – just hours after President Donald Trump swept back into power.

Tarrio was serving out a 22-year prison sentence for seditious conspiracy connected to his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol in what became one of the longest sentences of any of the more than 1,000 people arrested for the attack. News of his pending release came after his attorney had asked Trump for "a full and complete Presidential Pardon" earlier in the month.
Tarrio’s release will likely follow the mass release of more Proud Boys convicted on sedition charges. The Times reported that other members of the neo-fascist group have also “been called from their cells this evening to sign release papers, according to defense lawyers and Condemned USA, a group that has provided legal funds and advocacy for Jan. 6 defendants.”
Trump has repeatedly said he would pardon Jan. 6 rioters on his first day in office. CNN reported that Trump said Jan. 6 “hostages” would be released Monday night.
