Exiled Bannon lashes out: Hillary Clinton is 'not very bright' and Comey firing was stupid 'mistake'

Ousted White House chief strategist Steve Bannon said on Sunday night that Hillary Clinton is "not very bright" and that President Donald Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey was "the biggest mistake in modern political history."

In his conversation with journalist Charlie Rose, Bannon knocked Clinton, saying, "Hillary Clinton is not very bright. Everybody says she's so smart, so much smarter than Donald Trump, she doesn't really have a grasp. She doesn't really have a grasp on what's important and what's not."

He went on to say that Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey was "the biggest mistake in modern political history" in that it resulted in the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the launching of multiple investigations against Trump.

Bannon was fired from the White House after becoming increasingly erratic and hot-tempered with his rivals in the administration. He was implicated in several damaging leaks against the president's family and -- in spite of his lack of any clear role in the administration -- was showing signs of increased agitation as the months wore on.

Fellow staffers noted that Bannon's "appearance deteriorated" and he became increasingly prone to outbursts before he was formally ousted in August.

Since his firing, Bannon has returned to the "alt-right" hub Breitbart.com and hopes to manipulate the administration from outside. However, the website's traffic has fallen off steeply after a series of controversies and it has lost 90 percent of the advertisers it boasted in the months leading up to the 2016 election.
