Facebook trolls rain holy hell on Michigan Tea Partier's 1,900-word Bible-thumping excuse for affair

Having tried blaming the "Lansing mafia" and unnamed blackmailers for exposing his adulterous affair with a fellow lawmaker, Michigan Tea Party Republican Todd Courser turned to Facebook over the weekend to write a rambling Bible-quoting post invoking Jesus and Original Sin -- and his commenters weren't having it.

State Rep. Courser is under investigation for possible misuse of his office after attempting to get a top aide to distribute an email smear saying the lawmaker had a gay fling with a male prostitute behind a nightclub. Courser's plan was to use the anonymous smear to "inoculate the herd" -- voters and his followers -- before word got out that he was having an affair with fellow social conservative lawmaker, Rep. Cindy Gamrat (R), a mother of three.

While neither Courser or Gamrat have given any indication they will step down, the father of four did write an appeal on his Facebook page asking people to leave his family out of it, writing: "death will be a much richer reward, a much easier mantle, than having to share all of this, my wife and I have been dealing with this privately."

The conservative Courser was liberal with his use of Biblical quotations and blaming his transgressions on the sin that "lives within him," writing at one point: "I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me."

Followers of his story which made national news flooded his comments section with scathing attacks and mockery for hiding behind the Bible after being caught with his pants down with another woman.

Addressing the 1,900-word-long religious excuse, Kathy O'Brien wrote:  "Holy heck. Just. Stop. Talking."

Other commenters told the lawmaker to own up to the fact that he had been busted and just resign.

Dan Cohn: "You took a page from the Duggar's I see - quit hiding behind the bible and own up."

Andrew Cook: "Think of how narcissistic he must be to think that atheists will use his adultery as a reason to justify their belief that there is no god. We don't care Todd. And you are not a failure because you put your dick in the wrong hole. You are a failure because you judged others as being immoral while you were being immoral."

Evance Cannon: "You forgot a scripture......Leviticus 20:10: 'If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife, both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.'"

Benin Oakland: "Jesus Jesus Jesus I was a horrible sinner Jesus Jesus Jesus but you're a sinner to jesus Jesus Jesus I'm forgiven Jesus Jesus Jesus get the gays Jesus jesusus Jesus."

Chris Thompson: "Are you going to be a TV Preacher now?

Petey Wheatstraw: "Best thing about being a Christian? When everybody finds out all the horrible sick things you did, you can hide behind a bunch of quotes and talk about how all mankind is full of sin. Makes you feel real good."

Michael Jack Hampton went after the lawmaker for his conservative views on same-sex marriage, writing: "As I said in my voicemail message to you at your office, you proposed legislation that would damage my children and my spouse. Why would I give you the courtesy of leaving your family out of this when YOU TRIED TO TELL MY KIDS THAT THEY WOULD BE BETTER OFF IN AN ORPHANAGE THAN WITH LOVING PARENTS? You are such a disgusting waste of breath and should let the people of Michigan be free of you and the MARRIED WOMAN YOU REPEATEDLY CHEATED ON YOUR WIFE with. Resign while you still have some shred of dignity. Or, keep on at the job until you are replaced and lose any respect that you might still be able to muster. Remember, the Bible says that if you commit adultery, you are both supposed to be stoned to death. Hmm. Where have I heard that before? Oh, and I guess those "christian" business owners will have to discriminate against you now, since you are a known adulterer and stuff."

Frances Mesick Seyer was less judgmental and offered Courser someone else to blame for his travails, writing: "It is Obama's fault."
