Nevada indicts pro-Trump fake electors: report

Six alleged fake Donald Trump electors in Nevada have been indicted by a grand jury convened by state Attorney General Aaron Ford, CNN reported on Wednesday.

The attorney general is expected to say more at a news conference on the matter at 5:30pm ET.

Nevada was one of several battleground states in 2020 where Trump allies declared fake slates of electors, hoping to pressure then-Vice President Mike Pence to use them as a pretext to disqualify the real electors and throw the election to Trump.

Pence ultimately refused to go through with the scheme, which even many of its own proponents, like pro-Trump attorneys John Eastman and Kenneth Chesebro, acknowledged was illegal.

Among the indicted are Nevada Republican Party Chair Michael McDonald and Clark County Republican Chair Jesse Law, who, according to Jon Ralston of The Nevada Independent, had just announced his candidacy for Nevada State Assembly.

Nevada is the third state where fake electors have been criminally charged.

In Georgia, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis charged several accused fake electors as part of a racketeering scheme that includes Trump himself. And in Michigan, Attorney General Dana Nessel has brought felony charges against fake electors.

Criminal prosecution is not the only legal hazard the fake electors are experiencing. In Wisconsin, fake electors agreed to a settlement in a civil suit this week, part of which required them to admit that the 2020 election was not in fact stolen.
