FBI agents knew about Huma Abedin emails weeks before Comey sent letter: report

More questions are being raised about how the FBI handled information about emails belonging to Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin that were found on a laptop shared with her husband, disgraced ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner.

According to the Washington Post, FBI investigators had been aware of the emails for weeks before Comey was informed on Thursday.

The FBI director is under heavy fire from both conservatives and liberals for sending a letter to congressional leaders about the emails without specifying what exactly investigators are looking at.

According to the New Yorker, Attorney General Lorretta Lynch attempted to dissuade Comey from sending the letter describing the possibility that emails might be linked to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's server.

At issue now is why agents waited so long to provide the information to the FBI director.

According to people familiar with the case, the emails were discovered by New York FBI agents after they seized the computer as part of their investigation of Weiner who is alleged to have exchanged explicit messages with a 15-year-old girl.

Investigators believe Abedin also used the laptop, however she denied knowing about them.

The case is additionally tied up by reports that the FBI failed to get a warrant to look into the emails despite taking possession of the computer in early October while looking into the allegations against Weiner.
