FBI obtains warrant to examine emails on Weiner-Abedin laptop

FBI Director James Comey has received the warrant needed to review emails found on a laptop used by top aide to Hillary Clinton Huma Abedin and Abedin's husband, disgraced New York congressman Anthony Weiner. Comey sent a much-criticized letter to "key members of Congress" on Friday announcing that the bureau is reviewing new materials in the investigation of Clinton's use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State.

ABC News reported that Comey only obtained a warrant to examine the emails after he sent his letter to Congress on Friday.

Justice Department officials said that they were shocked that Comey made what is now being interpreted as a "partisan action" 11 days ahead of the 2016 election, particularly considering how little is known about the new emails.

"We don't know what this is yet," a source told ABC, adding that no one knows if "there is any 'there' there."

Comey, the source said, didn't know what he had, but "decided to move forward anyway."
