Flint official resigns after he's caught on tape blaming 'f*cking n*****s' for water crisis

An official with a publicly funded land bank in Flint, Michigan, has resigned after he was recorded blaming the city's water crisis on “f*cking n*****s” who failed to pay their bills on time.

Phil Stair, sales manager for the Genesee County Land Bank, resigned Monday after a recording was published of him making inaccurate and racially charged claims about the water emergency, reported MLive.

"Flint has the same problems as Detroit — f*cking n*****s don’t pay their bills," Stair says on the recording, which was made May 26 during a conversation with environmental activist and independent journalist Chelsea Lyons.

Lyons has been a critic of the land bank, which takes over tax-foreclosed properties, carries out demolitions, rehabilitations and sales, and has become Flint's largest property owner.

"The Land Bank is taking up all of the properties in Flint," she said. "They are pushing people out of neighborhood."

Michele Wildman, the land bank's executive director, accepted the resignation of the longtime agency employee.

"I am deeply troubled by (the statements)," Wildman said. "The citizens of Flint deserve to have trust in their public officials."

The recordings were made late last month over two days, after Lyons and another woman were tipped off that Stair was at a local bar, and first reported by Truth Against The Machine.
