Former supporters push courts to make Devin Nunes stop referring to himself as a 'farmer'

Residents in Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) district want him to stop calling himself a "farmer" — and have filed a petition to get courts to make it so.

The Fresno Bee reported that on Thursday, citizens in California's 22nd Congressional District filed a petition with the Sacramento Superior Court asking the court to remove "farmer" from Nunes' description on the ballot for this fall's midterm elections.

"I don’t believe (Nunes) has had any income from farming for at least 10 years,” Paul Buxman, a stone fruit farmer who lives in the town of Dinuba, told the Bee. “He has some interest in a few wineries, but he’s distanced himself from those and says he has no involvement in their day-to-day management."

The religious farmer said he used to support Nunes and still prays for him "regularly." Nevertheless, he believes the congressman who chairs the House Intelligence Committee has left behind farmers in his district, and shouldn't be able to call himself one because of it.

The petition was filed on behalf of Buxman and two other people by Fight Back California, a Democratic super PAC that targeted Nunes in a series of billboards that made headlines earlier in 2018.
