Fox legal analyst calls Trump ‘the loser’ after host trashes the president for defending Flynn

President Donald Trump’s former aide Michael Flynn was scheduled to be sentenced for lying to federal investigators on Tuesday.

A panel on Fox News’ Outnumbered harshly criticized Trump for defending Flynn after his former aide lied to his own vice president.

“There are two enormous problems, here. [Flynn] was about to be the national security advisor. You can't be the national security advisor and be paid by a foreign government. It's a much bigger deal than any lobbying,” said host Melissa Francis.

“That's a huge deal. And two, he also got Mike Pence, the vice president, to lie to the American people. If you're going to be national security advisor, you also have to be honest. These are huge, huge problems. It's why he got fired. That’s why it’s baffling that the president has defended him,” she added.

"Did the president know in January of 2017 that the person he was putting at the focal point of national security was an agent of a foreign country?" Napolitano asked.

"He didn't know then, but he does now," said panelist Capri Cafaro.

The panel then discussed Trump's tweets defending Flynn, which continued through a "good luck" tweet this morning.

"The president should not be tweeting 'poor Michael Flynn' and talking about how he has been abused by the system," Francis said.

"The president ought to have known what Michael Flynn was up to at the time. The president is so far the loser. We don't know what the sentence is going to be," Napolitano said.

"Why is the president the loser?" asked host Harris Faulkner.

"Because the president has minimized what General Flynn has done," Napolitano said.

"And you have a judge saying did he commit treason!" Napolitano said.

"Maybe [Trump] he could have tweeted at the time General Flynn was arrested, but he now knows what Flynn was doing at the time. He shouldn't be minimizing that. General Flynn was a foreign agent while he was working in the White House. He kept that from his bosses. That is not light or easy or something to be tweeted about or made a joke of."
