Fox News' Karl Rove torches GOP on Brett Kavanaugh hearings -- and says they'll pay the price in November

Fox News' Karl Rove on Thursday gave the Republicans a big thumbs down when it came to their handling of Christine Blasey Ford's sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. He said unless Kavanaugh puts in his "best moments" the hearing would benefit Democrats in the midterm elections whether they are able to stop his confirmation or not.

Of Dr. Ford, Rove would only allow that she was "an emotional and credible witness." Of "designated questioner" Rachel Mitchell, Rove could barely muster that "she kept the Republicans out of trouble by not having ten men line up to confront this woman claiming to be the victim of a horrific sexual abuse. But on the other hand, she did not put Dr. Ford in much difficulty herself until the very end."

Rove was furious with the Democrats on the committee, whom he predicted would use the hearings as a campaign issue in the rapidly approaching midterm elections.

"The Democrats want this as a talking point," he charged. "This thing has become a Democrat cause célèbre. It helps them with the electorate, it keeps the focus on something they want. And if they succeed in delaying it, so much the better, but even if they don't, they occupy valuable space in the weeks leading to the midterm election."
