Fox News struggles to make sense of Trump’s football rampage – conclude it is to distract from his many failures
Even Fox News isn't sure why President Donald Trump reignited a controversy from over a year ago when NFL player Colin Kaepernick first kneeled during the American National Anthem. Now, it's gone viral.
"I think that there were six kneeling protest before Friday," said Fox News host Bret Baier. "Then the speech Friday and the tweets that, as you just heard from John Roberts, over the weekend."
Baier argued that Trump's comments "has supercharged a very emotional issue, and people are on both sides of this issue."
"I think that the president clearly has stirred this up, and it is an emotional discussion," Baier went on. "What we are not discussing is that he may likely lose in the senate primary in Alabama, looks like it is an uphill battle for Luther Strange there. We will see. We're not talking talking about the fact that the health care repeal and replace bill is probably on life support in the senate. And we are not talking about the troubles that North Korea is just in the past hour putting out there. So, it is an interesting dichotomy to be talking about all this that has been stirred up in the past three days."
Baier also didn't mention that media isn't talking about Jared Kushner's use of a private email server that he began using after his father took office and he began working in the White House. The move also came after Trump attacked Hillary Clinton for doing the same and argued she should be "locked up" as a result.
"Clearly, I think, the SOB part of the speech was the part that went over the line for some folks," said Baier. "And, I think that his supporters are -- there was the moment that they kind of broke off. They said that that was not the right kind of terminology to be using. The issue itself about whether teams should allow the kneeling or the back and forth is one issue, but how the president characterized it in that speech in Alabama I think it's another."
The two hosts went on to argue why Trump would choose to do something and that he's one of the best marketing people in the country. Baier explained that sometimes Trump has motivation behind his actions, but they have no idea what it is.
