A GOP funding bill passed the Senate on Friday in a vote that narrowly averted a government shutdown hours before the midnight deadline. The legislation now heads to President Donald Trump to sign into law.
In a 54-46 vote, two Democrats joined all but one Republican in voting in favor of the funding bill, NBC News reported.

The passage of the bill came after the Senate held a key procedural vote in favor of cloture, which 10 Democrats voted to support, including Senate Minority Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL), Brian Schatz (D-HI) and John Fetterman (D-PA).
Defending his position Friday afternoon, Senate Minority Leader continued to insist that his vote for the GOP-backed funding bill was not only “the right thing,” but also “an act of strength” and “courage” that he said “history will vindicate.”
