Garland refuses to comment on status of Bannon’s contempt referral: ‘This is a criminal matter’
Many think the criminal contempt case against Steve Bannon is pretty straightforward, but questions are swirling as the Justice Department continues to seem undecided as to whether or not to bring charges against the former adviser to Donald Trump.
After more than two weeks since the House voted to hand Bannon's case over to the Justice Department, Attorney General Merrick Garland has remained mostly mum on the subject so far.
According to two reporters this Monday, Garland still won't budge when it comes to releasing information on the matter.
According to CBS News' Nicole Sganga, Garland said the Justice Department's review of possible criminal contempt charges against Bannon remains "ongoing."
"This is this is a criminal matter," Garland reportedly said. "We evaluate these in the normal way we do facts in the law, by applying the principles of prosecution."
According to CNN's Zachary Cohen, Garland's response when asked if he had any new developments on the case was an outright "No," adding that he will not comment in an ongoing criminal investigation.
