As bad as it is for Donald Trump that attorney Sidney Powell has taken a plea deal in Georgia to avoid jail time for racketeering, becoming a witness for prosecutors, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani may be in even worse shape as he faces his growing tsunami of legal difficulties.
According to one former federal prosecutor, Powell can hand investigators "red meat" to be used to prosecute the former president and his coterie of co-conspirators, but Giuliani --with whom Powell worked closely -- may be in more trouble than anyone.
Powell's decision to take a plea deal caught Trump's inner circle by surprise on Thursday and as former federal prosecutor Kevin J. O’Brien explained, Giuliani's legal team -- at least the attorneys who haven't left because he can't pay his bills -- can't be too pleased.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
Speaking with the Daily Beast's Jose Pagliery, O'Brien bluntly stated, "Giuliani is absolutely dead."
He then added, "Not that he doesn’t have enough troubles already, but this is the worst blow yet to him… she’s got to be trouble for Trump and double trouble for Giuliani."
He elaborated that "the floodgates are going to start opening in the Georgia case and it really vindicates Willis’ approach to the case. Even if it’s a headache administratively, they’re going to have plenty of cooperating witnesses against the people left standing.”
