House GOP demands Department of Justice charges Hunter Biden with lying to Congress
June 05, 2024
House Republicans Wednesday issued criminal referrals against President Joe Biden's son Hunter and his brother James.
Republicans on the Oversight, Judiciary and Ways and Means committees accuse the two Biden men of making making false statements to Congress during the impeachment inquiry of the president.
Now the Republicans are demanding the Justice department — which they often accuse of political weaponization against former President Donald Trump — pursue criminal charges against Hunter and James Biden.
"Hunter Biden falsely distanced himself from a corporate entity Rosemont Seneca Bohai, LLC-and its bank account," Republicans contend in a newly released letter.
"Additionally, Hunter Biden during his testimony relayed an entirely fictitious account about threatening text messages he sent to his Chinese business partner while invoking his father's presence with him as he wrote the messages."
Republicans accuse James Biden of lying about a 2017 meeting with Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Tony Bobulinski, their star witness who was found to have ties to Russian oligarchs.
"Hunter Biden and James Biden made materially false statements to the Oversight Committee and the Judiciary Committee, as demonstrated by the evidence presented in the attached referral," Republicans claim. "The nature of these false statements is not lost on the Committees: every instance implicates Joe Biden's knowledge of and role in his family's influence peddling."
An informant linked to the impeachment inquiry was arrested on charges he lied to the FBI about the Biden corruption claims.
Hunter Biden is currently standing trial in Delaware federal court on charges that he lied about his drug addiction when purchasing a firearm in 2018. He has pleaded not guilty.
