GOP rep. still denies last year's assessment that Russia helped Trump: 'I want to read the entire report first'

Republican Rep. Jeff Denham of California on Tuesday refused to agree with the intelligence community's 15-month-old assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 U.S. election to help then-candidate Donald Trump. Denham said that he has not yet made the time to read the report.

During an interview on CNN, host Kate Bolduan noted that DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Tuesday denied knowing about a Jan. 17, 2017 report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence which concluded that Russia was trying to help Trump win when it interfered in the U.S. election.

"Do you believe that conclusion?" Bolduan asked Denham.

"I don't, but I want to see all of the evidence pertaining to it," the California Republican replied. "Look, we've known that China and Russia have meddled in elections across the globe, including in the U.S. And it's something we ought to continue to investigate. It's something we were investigating under the Obama administration as well."

"You don't believe the 2017 assessment?" Bolduan pressed.

"I want to look at the entire report first," Denham said.
