GOP senator delivers colorful diatribe about 'sleazoid' Paul Manafort while attacking his lenient sentence

Asked about the slap-on-the-wrist sentence given to Paul Manafort, a Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee admitted he was stunned at the judge's leniency, before offering a colorful description of the former Donald Trump campaign chairman.

Appearing on "Face the Nation," Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said he didn't know the judge and assumed he had his reasons but had little good to say about Manafort who was given a 47 months prison term.

"It thought it would be longer," the exasperated Kennedy said. "Mr. Manafort is a grifter. He used to be a partner with Roger Stone. I’m sorry, he's just a sleazoid. He’s always played at the margins."

Kennedy backed off criticism of Judge T.S. Ellis, stating, "Rather than just be opinionated I’d rather be informed. Judge Ellis has been on the bench 30 years. I haven’t read the sentencing memos. He obviously believed four years was enough. I might disagree with him but I’d have to read the sentencing memos."
