GOP strategist admits the Republican 'brand is already trashed' amid Kavanaugh assault claims — and can't get 'much worse'

While discussing the sexual assault accusation circling Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, one GOP strategist admitted that it's unlikely her party's reputation could get any worse if they force Dr. Christine Blasey Ford to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"It's horrible news for the Republicans," former Rudy Giuliani staffer Susan Del Percio told a panel run by MSNBC's Katy Tur. The Republicans are alreadyin a bad situation, there is nogood way of coming out of this,period."

"If she testifies in front of the Judiciary Committee, where 11 members are white men, even if they try so carefully, it will still be viewed as aninterrogation," Del Percio continued. "There's very little doubt about that because questionshave to be asked."

The testimony "would be a very, very bad optic" for the GOP, the strategist noted — but they may go through with the "suffering" of the ordeal to get Kavanaugh confirmed, "it's worth that short-term pain."

New York Magazine's Gabriel Debenedetti noted that compelling Ford to testify could result in "long-termpolitical damage done to theRepublican brand."

"I speak as a Republican here: our brand is already trashed," Del Percio said, garnering a laugh from her fellow panelists.

"They're really not going to makeit that much worse, especially among suburban women," she added. "That's not going to change."
