An aide to Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has been arrested on cocaine trafficking charges after a huge parcel of drugs were delivered to his office.
LaMar Cook, 45, deputy director for the governor’s regional office in Springfield, allegedly accepted delivery of 8 kilograms of cocaine from a state trooper posing as a delivery worker after investigators intercepted two suspicious packages earlier this month and found the drugs, reported MassLive.
"The investigation stems from two prior seizures conducted by law enforcement earlier this month," said Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni in a statement. "On October 10, 2025, investigators intercepted and searched two suspicious packages at Hotel UMass in Amherst, which were found to contain approximately 13 kilograms of suspected cocaine."
"Evidence collected during that operation was consistent with the narcotics recovered during the most recent controlled delivery in Springfield," the prosecutor added.
Cook, who previously served as director of Hotel UMass, was allegedly waiting for the package at the state building when the undercover trooper arrived with it, and he was fired from his job with the governor's regional office.
"The Governor’s Office has been made aware of the arrest of an employee, LaMar Cook," Healey's office said in a statement. "The conduct that occurred here is unacceptable and represents a major breach of the public trust. Mr. Cook has been terminated from his position effective immediately. This criminal investigation is ongoing, and our administration will work with law enforcement to assist them in their work."
Cook is a co-founder of the Back to School Brighter Initiative offering free haircuts to public school students, and a member of Springfield Community Preservation Committee, in addition to being a "major presence" in the city's business community, the governor's office announced at the time of his appointment.
He ran unsuccessfully for Springfield City Council in 2015 and for School Committee in 2017, according to MassLive.
