Grand jury indicts superintendent and three others in Steubenville rape case

A grand jury has indicted a school superintendent and three others in connection with the rape of a teenage girl last year in Steubenville, Ohio.

Superintendent Michael McVey was charged Monday with one count of tampering with evidence and two counts of obstructing justice, as well as two misdemeanor counts.

A volunteer assistant football coach was charged with allowing underage drinking, obstructing official business and making a false statement.

Two school employees, Lynette Gorman and wrestling coach Seth Fluharty, were each charged with failure to report child abuse.

Steubenville High School football players Ma'lik Richmond and Trenton Mays were convicted in March of raping the 16-year-old girl at an August 2012 party.

Photos and videos of the incident were shared on social media and attracted international attention.

Richmond, 16, and Mays, 17, were sentenced to at least a year in juvenile prison.

The grand jury investigating the case met 18 times in seven months and heard from 123 witnesses.

"People made bad choices and the grand jury said there are repercussions," Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said.
