Republican lawmakers took part in a demonstration of support for President Donald Trump's threats to take over Greenland.
Some of the 79-year-old president's MAGA allies, alongside a pro-Kremlin Romanian right-wing nationalist, carved up a Greenland-shaped cake decorated like an American flag in a video recorded at the Kennedy Center, reported The New Republic.
"We cut it!" proclaimed Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) as she cut into the first slice, surrounded by Reps. Andy Ogles (R-AZ) and Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) and others.
“We will be there for all the free people in the world,” added George Simion, head of the far-right Alliance for the Union of Romanians party, who then muttered about his wish to “get rid of Macron.”
The demonstration did not go over well with European leaders, who Trump has insisted must turn over the Danish territory to the U.S. for national security reasons.
“This is how some in the US view Greenland and its people — as a cake to be cut up and shared with smiles and laughter,” posted the European Commission’s Antoine Bondaz. “Sorry, but this is deeply disrespectful and frankly pathetic.”
"Imagine if another country did that to us," said historian and author Joann Freeman. "Remember their names."
"Welcome to the clicktatorship, where everything is content," added Michigan policy professor Don Moynihan.
"Reality has been warped to the point it no longer feels real," observed X user Daractenus.
"The optics of carving up Greenland are … not great," cringed New York Post foreign policy correspondent Caitlin Doornbos.
"I guess that the next Rep. Luna's show would be to carve the Ukraine-shaped cake," replied Ukrainian journalist Victor Kovalenko. "Her Moscow friend, Kirill Dmitriev, would be incredibly delighted."
