President Donald Trump's move to retaliate against The Associated Press for not using the preferred language of the administration is even making a key right-wing Fox News contributor uncomfortable.
The Associated Press has been barred from press briefings for three consecutive days because the wire service declined to update its style guide to reflect the Trump administration's executive order proclaiming the Gulf of Mexico to be the "Gulf of America." The move has triggered widespread anger at both the Trump administration and at the White House Correspondents Association for their lack of action in standing up for one of their member outlets.
Fox News commentator and right-wing talk radio host Guy Benson had concerns of his own about the whole state of affairs, which he posted to the X platform on Thursday evening.

"On the WH’s 'Gulf of America' battle with the AP (of which I’ve been very critical for various reasons), I have a question," wrote Benson. "Let’s say a future Democrat administration decided that due to the state’s Confederate & racist past, the Mississippi River would hereby be renamed the Barack Obama River, in honor of our first black president. Not as far-fetched as some may think."
"Now, if a news organization declined to just switch to calling it the Obama River overnight, how would we all react if the Dem WH then froze out that news org, in retaliation?" Benson asked rhetorically.
While the AP has not updated its naming conventions, others have; most notably, Apple Maps and Google Maps are now displaying the name "Gulf of America" to users within the United States.
